Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday presided over a cabinet meeting in Mumbai.
It was the first meeting cabinet meeting held after he divested rebel Shiv Sena ministers including Eknath Shinde of their portfolios. Talking to reporters after the meeting, home minister and NCP leader Dilip Walse Patil said no political issues were discussed.
Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis met Union minister Amit Shah and BJP president J P Nadda to discuss the party's next course of action.
Fadnavis was joined by BJP MP and senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani in the meeting with the home minister, sources said. They are believed to have explored various options available for the party and deliberated on their legal feasibility as the BJP works to recapture power in Maharashtra with the help of rebel Shiv Sena MLAs and several independent lawmakers.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has written to rebel MLAs, asking them to return to Mumbai from Guwahati where they are camping with Eknath Shinde.
"Many of you are in touch with us, you're still in Shiv Sena at heart...As Shiv Sena's family head, I respect your sentiments, get rid of confusion...we'll sit together and find a way out of this...if you come forward and speak, we'll find a way out," he wrote.
Shiv Sena rebel Eknath Shindea told reporters that he intends to return to Mumbai soon. He also asked the Shiv Sena to disclose names of his group MLAs who are reportedly in contact with it.
Shinde further said that he has 50 MLAs with him in Guwahati and they have "come of their own accord and for Hindutva."
