Former England captain and current Delhi Capitals mentor Kevin Pietersen is known for his cricketing prowess on the field, but off the pitch, he has built an impressive investment portfolio across various industries and countries.
Pietersen describes himself as a cautious investor. "I don't take many risks, but I do like unique ventures," he told NDTV Profit. However, he acknowledges his interest in unique ventures and thorough research before making any financial commitments.
A Diversified Portfolio
Pietersen's investments span multiple sectors. "I have invested in a lot of things, including the stock market," he said. Additionally, his passion for Africa and wildlife conservation has led to investments in safari lodges in South Africa. "Everybody knows my love affair with Africa and everything we do in the conservation space. I have a couple of lodges in South Africa," he revealed.
Real estate is another major focus. "My wife and I are heavily invested in real estate in London and across the country," Pietersen said.
Investments In India
Pietersen's latest move is an investment in an Indian whisky brand—Ardent Alcobev. "India is growing rapidly in infrastructure and investment opportunities," he said. Having visited for over 20 years, he has witnessed its transformation firsthand.
He contrasted India's optimism and opportunities with the UK's economic climate. "I live in the UK, which is all doom and gloom. The economy is quite shattered, and investment and growth opportunities are few and far between. Many people are leaving the UK for that reason," he observed.
"India is full of opportunities and positive people. I want to be part of this growth," he said.
Advice For New Investors
"My advice for first-time investors is to do your research. Make sure that you also have guidance from experienced campaigners. And last but not least—go with your gut," he advised.
Reflecting on his own decision-making, he credited the experience of his business partners for guiding his latest investment. "This investment gained traction with me because of my understanding and appreciation for the rich history and the experience that the team has. You need experienced people to guide you properly to make the right decision," he concluded.
