Jet fuel prices have crossed the Rs 2 lakh mark in India amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, according to the latest revision announced by oil marketing companies on April 1, 2026.
Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices soared to a record high this month, with Chennai recording the highest rate at Rs 2,14,597.66 per kl for domestic airlines, followed by Delhi at Rs 2,07,341.22 per kl for domestic airlines and Kolkata at Rs 2,05,955.33.

The prices have more than doubled after the latest revision, which comes a month after the Middle East conflict began. Before this, Chennai recorded the highest ATF prices at Rs 1,00,280.49 per kl, followed by Kolkata at Rs 99,587.14 per kl, Delhi at Rs 96,638.14 per kl, and Mumbai at Rs 90,451.87 per kl, as per the rates announced on March 1, 2026.

Globally, crude oil prices have jumped more than 50% since the conflict began, along with the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in supply disruption, contributing to higher prices. India is currently a net exporter of ATF.
NDTV Profit earlier reported that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has conducted discussions with several government stakeholders to consider possible interventions amid the soaring prices. One of the key measures is engaging with state governments to bring down the value-added tax, which is a major part of airlines' operating costs.
Jet fuel prices at metro airports have typically remained higher in comparison to non-metro airports due to high state taxes and other charges. Hence, states and union territories such as Maharashtra and Delhi have been considered as the regions that should consider to reduce VAT on ATF. Additionally, the government is looking at multiple policy actions to ensure that airlines are not forced to pass on higher fuel costs to passengers via high ticket prices.
