The IPL auction saw teams shelling out Rs 167 crore to onboard 80 players for the upcoming edition of the coveted T20 tournament. Of the players bought on Friday, 29 are foreigners.
Of the players that went on the block, 71 remained unsold. From the 405 players shortlisted for the auction, 254 were not put up for bidding.
Together with the Rs 743.5 crore spent by teams as retention cost, the overall expenditure on players this year stands at Rs 910.50 crore.
The mini auction in Kochi made a new record for the highest paycheck in IPL yet, with Punjab Kings paying Rs 18.50 crore for English all-rounder Sam Curran. Cameron Green (Rs 17.50 crore), Ben Stokes (Rs 16.25 crore), Nicholas Pooran (Rs 16 crore) and Harry Brook (Rs 13.25 crore) follow Curran on the list of top buys.
A total of seven players went unsold in the highest reserve price category of Rs 2 crore, including Jimmy Neesham, Tom Banton, Travis Head, Chris Jordan and others.
Among Indian players batsman Mayank Agarwal got the biggest price tag of Rs 8.25 crore. The other two Indians on the list of top 10 purchases are uncapped bowlers Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar, with winning bids of Rs 6 crore and Rs 5.5 crore, respectively.

Rajasthan Royals took Kunal Rathore, while all-rounder Sonu Yadav went to RCB. Pacer Kulwant Khejroliya was picked by KKR, and CSK got Ajay Mandal. Mohit Rathee was sold to Punjab Kings, all-rounder Nehal Wadhera went to MI, and Bhagath Varma was picked by CSK. Shivam Singh was the last name to be picked in the first leg of accelerated auction, and was sold to Punjab Kings.
All these players attracted bids of Rs 20 lakh.

The Rajasthan squad clinched the South African player for Rs 50 lakh.
Gujarat Titans takes wicketkeeper Urvil Patel for Rs 20 lakh.
Mumbai Indians place the winning bid of Rs 20 lakh for Vishnu Vinod.
Punjab Kings take pacer Vidwath Kaverappa for Rs 20 lakh. RCB takes fast bowler Rajan Kumar for Rs 70 lakh.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals went toe-to-toe for left-arm orthodox spinner Mayank Dagar, with the former taking him for Rs 1.8 crore. His base price was Rs 20 lakh.
MI picks Duan Jansen for Rs 20 lakh, while Prerak Mankad is sold to LSG for Rs 20 lakh.
Mumbai Indians bought Piyush Chawla in for Rs 50 lakh.
Amit Mishra goes to LSG for Rs 50 lakh, while Punjab Kings picks Harpreet Bhatia for Rs 40 lakh.
Manoj Bhandage is sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for his base price of Rs 20 lakh.
Chennai Super Kings paid Rs 1 crore for Kyle Jamieson, the base price for the player.

The brief bidding war between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals ended with Manish Pandey going to the latter for Rs 2.4 crore. Pandey, who played the last IPL with LSG, is the first Indian player to hit a century in the tournament.
The teams have so far spent Rs 132.05 crore so far, picking 32 players for the 87 slots available at the beginning of the IPL auction. Of these 14 are overseas players.
Names like Jimmy Neesham, Chris Lynn, Jason Roy, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Manish Pandey, Carlos Braithwaite are still among the players waiting in the wings.

Against a base price of Rs 40 lakh, the bid for Mavi now stands at Rs 2.2 crore. The Noida based bowling all-rounder has played 32 matches in IPL, taking 30 wickets and scoring 51 runs.
While CSK picked Nishant Sindhu for Rs 60 lakh, Sanvir Singh went to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20 lakh. Gujarat paid Rs 1.2 crore for wicketkeeper batsman Srikar Bharat, who has a high score of 78 in IPL.
KKR bought Vaibhav Sharma for Rs 60 lakh, whereas Upendra Singh Yadav was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 25 lakh.
The Jammu-born left-handed batsman was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 2.6 crore. His base price was Rs 20 lakh.
The team picks Samarth Vyas for his base price of Rs 20 lakh.
Shaik Rasheed was sold to CSK for his base price of Rs 20 lakh. The right-handed batsman from Guntur has been part of the India U-19 team as its vice captain.
Delhi picked the Indian pacer for Rs 50 lakh. Sunrisers Hyderabad picks leg spinner Adil Rashid for Rs 2 crore.
Royal Challengers Bangalore picks Topley for Rs 1.9 crore. Lucknow Super Giants buys Jaydev Unadkat for Rs 50 lakh.
Pacer Adam Milne is unsold. Jhye Richardson goes to Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.5 crore.
Delhi Capital picked wicket-keeper Phil Salt for Rs 2 crore.
Chris Jordan goes unsold at base price of Rs 2 crore.

The West Indies wicketkeeper has also piqued LSG's interest as the bid for him now stands at Rs 9.5 crore against a base price of Rs 2 crore.
Litton Das, the first player as the bidding continued, went unsold at a base price of Rs 50 lakh.
Sam Curran became the most expensive player ever to be bought in the IPL with the Rs 18.50 crore bid placed by Punjab Kings. Ben Stokes and Cameron Green were picked by Chennai Super Kings at Rs 16.25 crore and Mumbai Indians for Rs 17.5 crore, respectively.
Ten players have been sold so far, with four going for their respective base prices. Eight of these are overseas players.

The teams have 87 slots available between them, 30 of which can be filled with overseas players.
Of the 405 players available for the auction, 273 are Indian and 132 are overseas players. The shortlisted players, picked from an initial list of 991, include 119 capped and 282 uncapped players, along with four from associate nations.
