French Energy Giant TotalEnergies Reiterates Backing For Adani Green’s Growth Plans In India
AGEL currently operates 14 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, and its partnership with TotalEnergies is expected to contribute to India’s broader renewable energy goals.

French energy company TotalEnergies has confirmed its continued support for Adani Green Energy Ltd.'s expansion in India, according to Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné.
Speaking during a meeting in Paris with Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Pouyanné said, “We are committed to continuing to support the expansion of Adani Green, which already has 14 gigawatts of capacity. We will continue to support this growth.” Minister Goyal is on a three-day official visit to France that began on June 1.
AGEL currently operates 14 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, and its partnership with TotalEnergies is expected to contribute to India’s broader renewable energy goals.
Over the past five years, TotalEnergies has invested around $5 billion in India, focusing on areas such as natural gas infrastructure, city gas networks, and renewable energy installations—including both solar and wind—through collaborations with Adani Group companies.
TotalEnergies first partnered with AGEL in January 2021 by purchasing a minority stake in the company. The French firm also holds a 50% interest in three joint ventures with AGEL that manage renewable energy projects across India.
During his visit, Pouyanné also outlined TotalEnergies’ broader strategy in India, including boosting energy exports from the United States, where the company is a leading energy exporter. He also mentioned plans to resume operations in Mozambique, which could create additional supply lines for India.
TotalEnergies later clarified that its previous investments in Adani Group companies were carried out in accordance with legal requirements and internal compliance processes, based on comprehensive due diligence and declarations from its partners.
The announcement aligns with both firms’ plans to expand in India’s renewable energy space. According to reports, Goyal encouraged the French energy firm to scale up its engagement in India’s energy sector during the talks.
In a separate development, TotalEnergies signed a memorandum of understanding with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation during the India Energy Summit, signalling the company’s growing involvement in India’s energy infrastructure.
