What is DigiYatra App?
DigiYatra is an initiative of the government to enhance the passenger experience with seamless, contactless, and paperless boarding at airports based on facial recognition technology (FRT).
It helps travellers pass through various checkpoints at the airports through paperless and contactless processes using facial features to validate their identity and travel details. The DigiYatra app has been designed for a hassle-free check-in at airports while significantly reducing the wait time for the passengers.
The platform was developed by Hyderabad-based Dataevolve Solutions. The first phase of the operations was launched at the New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi airports in December 2022. Now, it has expanded to 24 airports across the country.
In September this year, the facility was launched at nine more airports by Naidu, including Visakhapatnam International Airport, Coimbatore, Dabolim, Indore, Bagdogra, Ranchi, Patna, Raipur, and Bhubaneswar airports.
How To Use the DigiYatra App?
Download the DigiYatra app and register using your mobile number and an OTP.
Link your identity credentials using DigiLocker or Aadhaar. Verify your Aadhaar using a separate OTP.
The app will prompt you to click a selfie. Click it and upload it on the app, ensuring that the image is unobstructed.
Upload your current boarding pass on the DigiYatra app.
At the departure entry gate, scan your uploaded boarding pass and look into the camera to get your face scanned. The door will open after this.
At the pre-security DigiYatra gate, look in the camera and wait for validation. After validation, the E-Gate will open.
Once your flight starts boarding, look in the biometric camera at the boarding gate and wait for validation. After validation, walk towards the aircraft.
DigiYatra was launched at a time when the need for minimising physical contact became urgent, with Covid-19 pandemic plaguing the aviation sector amid lockdowns and travel restrictions.
