Engineering major Crompton Greaves (CG) said it has been awarded a contract to supply and install onshore and offshore substations at the 219-mw Humber Gateway offshore wind farm in Britain.

Under the contract, CG will prepare a detailed electrical system design with grid code compliance and supply a high voltage offshore substation consisting of two step-up power transformers, the company said in a statement.

The value of the contract was not disclosed. The scope also involves onshore substation works.

The substations are scheduled to be installed and commissioned in 2013 and will  become fully operational in early 2014.

"Britain will see 18-gw of offshore wind installed by 2020 and this first win provides CG a launch pad to secure a strong market share in this strategic sector," CG Ehief Executive and Managing Director Laurent Demortier said.
