The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) directed Tata Chemicals Ltd. to shut down operations at its plant in Haldia, West Bengal for alleged non-compliance with liquid waste discharge norms.
The March 11, 2017 order was based on analysis of samples taken on January 9 this year, the company said in a stock exchange filing.
The company's Haldia plant is the sole manufacturing unit in West Bengal for key fertilisers such as diammonium phosphate, nitrogen phosphate and potash composition. It has a capacity of over 1.2 million tonne per annum.
Tata Chemicals had last month said that Haldia plant would remain shut till April 15 due to relocation of ammonia pipeline as well as annual repair and maintenance work.
The company has submitted a written representation to the CPCB to repeal the order. The representation includes reports of parallel samples drawn by a State Pollution Control Board-approved labarotary, which the company said is in compliance with prescribed the norms. It is awaiting a response from the CPCB.
