(Bloomberg) -- The House Republicans did slightly better at fundraising than the House Democrats in April, only the second time in the last two years the GOP has come out on top.
The National Republican Congressional Committee raised $11.4 million, said a party official not authorized to speak on its behalf. That topped the $11.3 million the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced it had raised. The DCCC still has a wide financial advantage, having raised about $44 million more than the NRCC in the current election cycle.
Word of the narrow fundraising win follows Republican Mike Garcia's win in Tuesday's special election in California's 25th district. It was the first time in 22 years the GOP flipped a Golden State seat previously held by a Democrat, though Garcia's predecessor, former Congresswoman Katie Hill, resigned after just 10 months in office. Before that, the seat was held by Republicans for over 20 years.
The DCCC raised considerably less in the first full month of lockdowns and social distancing than they had in the previous month; funds raised in March were $14.3 million. The NRCC haul was down slightly from $11.3 million in March, its most recent filing with the Federal Election Commission shows.
Both committees are due to file detailed reports on their contributions, expenditures, and cash on hand with the FEC on May 20.
