Jeff Bezos-backed Blue Origin is building a satellite communication network to deliver connectivity to data centres, governments and businesses, the company said on Wednesday.
The satellite network, called TeraWave, will be composed of over 5,000 satellites in both low- and medium-Earth Orbit. The network will be able to deliver data speeds of up to six terabytes per second anywhere on the planet and service tens of thousands of users for critical operations.
Blue Origin said it will begin deploying the network in the fourth quarter of 2027.
The service is “purpose-built for enterprise customers,” Chief Executive Officer Dave Limp wrote in a post on X.
“This provides the reliability and resilience needed for real-time operations and massive data movement. It also provides backup connectivity during outages, keeping critical operations running,” he added.
Blue Origin is primarily a rocket launch company, conducting short space tourism flights on its New Shepard spacecraft and, more recently, beginning commercial launches on its heavy-lift New Glenn rocket.
