After L&T, Ravi Uppal set to join JSPL

Spending around three years with engineering and construction company Larsen and Toubro (L&T), Ravi Uppal is now set to join Naveen Jindal-led JSPL and may steer its operations as Managing Director.

"Uppal's term with L&T ended on September 15. He will go to Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) from here and may join as its Managing Director," a source in the know said.

Interestingly, Jindal, a Member of Parliament, is heading JSPL as its Chairman and Managing Director. Uppal is likely to be given the task of a Managing Director in the company, which would invariably lead to splitting of the top post.

JSPL is on a massive expansion drive in both in steel and power businesses.

Uppal had been in L&T since he joined the company in 2009 as Managing Director of L&T (Power). In  2010, he was elevated to the Board level. His last designation with the company was Whole-Time Director and President of the power vertical.

Uppal had lost the race to become the Chief Executive of L&T when the management was re-jigged  earlier this year.

Before taking on his present responsibility with L&T, he was with ABB Group for over 22 years as its President - Global Markets and Member of ABB Group Executive Committee, based in Switzerland.

He was also instrumental for establishing and developing Volvo's operations in India from scratch as its Managing Director and Country Manager, before joining L&T.

Uppal studied electrical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, and is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
