The area near the White House has closed after a vehicle breached a security barricade on Wednesday.
The US Secret Service has launched an investigation into the matter and arrested the driver of the vehicle.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the incident happened approximately 6:37 am and the officers responded to the vicinity of the White House to assist the Secret Service after the van drove through the barricade at Connecticut Avenue and H Street, Northwest.
So far, there are no reports of any casualties or injuries.
The nearby streets have been temporarily closed due to the ongoing investigation by the police.
"Various entrances and the streets are temporarily closed as teams conduct their work. We will provide additional information once we get updated from officers later this morning, reported CBS, quoting Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the agency.
The incident comes after two alleged ISIS terrorists hurled improvised explosive devices at a far-right protest outside New York City's mayoral mansion on Saturday.
The homemade devices, which did not explode, were hurled during raucous counterprotests against an anti-Islam demonstration led by Jake Lang.
Emir Balat, 18, and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, were being held without bail after a court appearance Monday.
