Online recruitment activity registered a 12 percent year-on-year growth in January, led by production and manufacturing sectors as also the outlook for next few months looks positive, says a report.

The Monster Employment Index India for January stood at 284, up 12 percent compared to the same month last year, while on a month-on-month basis there was a 2 percent fall.

“It is interesting to note that production and manufacturing sector is on the revival mode, a much-needed impetus in order to create more jobs and solidify the backbone of our economy,” said Sanjay Modi, managing director, Monster.com, APAC & Middle-East.

Modi further noted that online recruitment activity in banking, financial services and insurance sectors registered a surge in January.

This can be attributed to the conducive investment climate, digital growth and increased savings in the formal financial sector.

Going forward, the job market looks positive and hopefully, hiring should also gain traction in the next few months. "However, the emphasis remains on re-skilling and upskilling employees to be able to survive the dynamism in the jobs market and the impact of rising adoption of artificial intelligence," he added.

Industry-wise, recruitment activity improved in 18 of the 27 industry sectors monitored by the index.

E-commerce sector registered 8 percent year-on-year growth in January 2018. Demand in the month increased by 1 percent from a decline of 3 percent in December 2017 and matched the level seen three months ago.

In terms of cities, e-recruitment activity exceeded the year-ago level in all 12 of the 13 cities monitored by the index. Kolkata (47 percent) recorded the most notable annual growth rate, followed by Ahmedabad (32 percent) and Baroda (31 percent), the report added.
