Thug Life Controversies

The release of the film was marred by controversy surrounding Kamal Haasan’s comments on the Kannada language. At a promotional event for Thug Life, the National Award winner’s "Kannada was born out of Tamil" remark led to a lot of furore.

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), last week, threatened to ban Thug Life over Haasan's comments. The superstar went to the Karnataka High Court to ensure the movie’s release in the state. The court, however, urged the actor to apologise and cautioned him about misusing the right to free speech.

Kamal Haasan, who is also the producer of the film alongside Mani Ratnam and Udhayanidhi Stalin, refused to apologise for his remarks.

Another controversy around the movie was Kamal Haasan’s intimate scenes with his much younger co-stars Trisha and Abhirami. Their scenes in the trailer had led to a lot of backlash on social media.

Kamal Haasan's Upcoming Projects

For Kamal Haasan, Thug Life marks his first movie after the underwhelming performance of Indian 2. The Vikram actor will next be seen in Indian 3. He will also appear in the sequel to his blockbuster action drama, Vikram.
