The unexpected death of billionaire businessman Sunjay Kapur, Chairman of automotive components manufacturer Sona Comstar, on June 12, has shocked many. Kapur died at the age of 53 while playing a polo match in England.

The sudden nature of his death has sparked widespread speculation about the cause. Various theories have gained traction on social media, though an official explanation based on the post-mortem report is awaited. Early unconfirmed reports speculated that he may have suffered an anaphylactic shock after allegedly swallowing a bee.

Commenting on the possible cause of death, renowned cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta Hospital, suggested that it could have been an anaphylactic reaction to a bee sting, although he noted such cases are rare.

Speaking to NDTV, Dr Trehan said, "The question mark will remain whether the bee got into his mouth, which caused the problem, or he had a heart attack because of choking, or a heart attack while playing polo."

During the match, Kapur reportedly told the umpire he was choking, possibly after swallowing something. According to The Telegraph, witnesses at the polo match heard him say, "I've swallowed something". This led many to believe he had swallowed an insect. However, other eyewitnesses claimed he may have been stung by a bee instead.

Dr Trehan added that Kapur's post-mortem, being conducted in London, will give more clarity about the exact cause of his death.

The billionaire industrialist was previously married to actress Karishma Kapoor. The couple had two children, but ended up parting ways in 2016 after a divorce, following marital troubles.

Kapur married Karishma in 2003. A year after their divorce, he got married to model Priya Sachdev. Kapur's father-in-law, Ashok Sachdev, confirmed to NDTV that the final rites will be held in New Delhi once the body arrives.

Efforts are currently underway to bring Kapur's body to India. However, some delay is expected due to his US citizenship, which mandates some paperwork as per consulate procedures for the transfer of the body.
