WhatsApp is working to create a feature that will swiftly summarise chats. Called “Quick Chat Recaps”, the optional feature uses Private Processing to present concise overviews of unread messages, according to WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo.

WhatsApp has already rolled out an optional private AI message summaries to help users catch up on conversations more swiftly. This feature creates short overviews of unread messages, allowing individuals to quickly grasp the context of chats without having to scroll through each one.

Now, it appears that WhatsApp is expanding the functionality and looking to introduce a feature that enables users to get summaries of specific conversations in a bid to save their time and effort.

How Does WhatsApp's Quick Chat Recaps Feature Work?

The Quick Chat Recaps feature differs from the current message summaries that offer brief synopsis of unread messages within a single chat. It aims to deliver a more comprehensive summary of unread messages across chosen conversations.

Users can go to the Chats tab, select up to five conversations, and click on a new icon named Quick Recap. When this option is activated, Private Processing organises unread messages so that Meta AI can create a summary without revealing personal data. Users then get an overview of the most important unread messages in each conversation chosen.

As per WABetaInfo, the feature can only handle a maximum of five chats at once. If users require summaries for other chats, they will have to repeat the process. Furthermore, chats secured by Advanced Chat Privacy cannot be included in Quick Recap, because users have specifically opted out of AI features.

Prior to processing messages, data and requests are managed through the Private Processing environment.Private Processing ensures that the message is encrypted, and neither WhatsApp nor Meta can access the original data or the summary created.

When Will WhatsApp's Quick Chat Recaps Launch?

The feature is still being developed and is not available for beta testing at this time, according to WABetaInfo. It is anticipated to be launched in a forthcoming update.
