WEF India Economic Summit 2019: Booking.com Says India’s Small Towns Seeing Greater Demand

India's smaller towns are witnessing faster growth for the Amsterdam-based hotel booking platform, Booking.com.

“The biggest growth we see now is from Tier 2-3 cities,” Gillian Tans, chairwoman at Booking.com, told BloombergQuint, adding that she is seeing a rise in demand from both customers and property owners.

The online travel portal said it has been able to take the number of properties listed on its platform to 55,000 since it set shop in India. That's a little less than the market leader—MakeMyTrip and Goibibo combined—which together has more than 61,500 listed properties in India.

The hotel aggregator has a “big budget for India”, Tans said, without specifying the amount.
