Meta Ray Ban Glasses Now Available In These European Countries, Set To Launch In India Soon
Meta has expanded its AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses across more European countries, introducing voice interaction, real-time translation and visual recognition features.
Meta has announced the expansion of its AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses into several new European markets. According to an update by the company on April 23, users in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland can now access the voice-activated Meta AI on their Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
The rollout introduces a variety of features to improve everyday interactions. According to a company statement, users in these countries can now interact with Meta AI using their voice to get answers to general questions.
In addition, the live translation tool — earlier available in select regions — is now being made widely accessible. This feature is meant to facilitate real-time multilingual conversations in English, French, Italian and Spanish, making it especially useful for travel or for bridging language gaps in family and social settings.
Meta also said that next week onwards, users in all supported EU countries will be able to use the glasses to receive contextual information about objects they are viewing.
“Starting next week, we’ll be rolling out the ability for you to ask Meta AI about the things you’re looking at and get real-time responses to all our supported countries in the EU,” the official release mentioned.
On Nov. 18, 2024, Meta introduced its AI assistant to Ray-Ban Meta glasses in France, Italy, Ireland and Spain. This allowed users in those countries to use voice commands to ask general questions and receive instant answers. Before this rollout, the feature enabling users to ask questions based on what they were seeing was limited to the United States, Canada, and Australia.
This image recognition feature allows users to ask questions such as, “Hey Meta, tell me more about this landmark,” and receive immediate responses.
India Among New Markets
In another announcement, the company said that the Ray-Ban Meta glasses are set to launch soon in India as well, along with Mexico and the United Arab Emirates.
In a major software update, the live translation feature is now being rolled out globally. Users can engage in real-time conversations across English, French, Italian and Spanish, even without a network connection, as long as the language pack is pre-downloaded. Spoken translations are delivered through the glasses, while a transcript appears on the connected phone. Users just need to say, “Hey Meta, start live translation.”
More connectivity features are also on the way. Instagram integration is being added, enabling users to send and receive messages, photos, and audio or video calls directly from the glasses.
Music streaming is also getting an upgrade. Access to services like Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Shazam is expanding beyond the US and Canada. With Meta AI, users can now request songs or ask questions about what they’re hearing, like 'Hey Meta, what’s the name of this song?'—as long as English is set as the default language.
