Elon Musk on Friday invited users of the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to explore the new integration of the AI-powered chatbot, Grok. Developed by Musk's US-based AI company, xAI, Grok is a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other firms like Perplexity AI.

To try out the feature, users will simply need to tag Grok in any post on X.

“Ask @grok is now live. Just reply to a post with @grok!” Musk said in a post on X.

At present, several conversational chatbots are active on X, including the US-based Perplexity AI. Users can tag '@AskPerplexity' in their X posts to get answers to any questions or to clarify any confusion they may have.

With Perplexity, X users have observed that the bot sometimes struggles to contextualise viral memes or incidents that are only understandable to those who have a constant online presence across multiple social media platforms. This highlights a gap in AI's ability to fully grasp real-time, culturally specific trends and references.

After Musk's invite, many users tried out the newly integrated Grok feature, asking the bot all kinds of questions. However, the replies to Musk’s post showed that the bot was not fully active, as it only replied to a few users.

One user, @krstnclark, shared, "Trying but no replies. I'm going to try on a random account I follow. Hope they understand bok choy."

On other posts, however, the bot appeared to be functioning accurately. It could be seen successfully identifying photos and providing detailed descriptions of the images.

Some users also took the opportunity to tease Musk by asking bot questions such as: "When is Elon going to start focusing on Tesla?"

"@Grok is Barron Trump (Trump's son) going to become president someday?" was another question posted by a user that remained unanswered.

Musk manages at least five companies. Now, with his newfound interest in running the U.S. government alongside Donald Trump, many fans and critics are concerned. They worry about his divided attention and how it might impact his ventures.

Musk is the CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, and X. He is also the founder of xAI and Neuralink and a construction firm, The Boring Company.
