MI began their season on a winning note as the five-time champions defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets. It was for the first time in 13 years that Mumbai won its season opener. The team could not sustain the momentum as it succumbed to a six-wicket loss against Delhi Capitals next. With a win and a loss from its first two matches, the Hardik Pandya led-side is sixth in the league.

The match will see the face-off of two star cricketers belonging to different generations. Rajasthan have teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who is fast gaining reputation of being a fearless hitter of the cricket ball. To dismiss Sooryavanshi early, Mumbai will bank on the skills and experience of Jasprit Bumrah.
Hardik Pandya is likely to be back for this game. He missed the match against Delhi but has since returned and has trained in Guwahati to prepare for the match.
