WTC Final 2025: Australia will face off against South Africa in the final of the ICC World Test Championship, beginning in London on Wednesday. The match will be played at the Lord's from 3 p.m. IST onwards.

Pat Cummins-led Australia will be looking defend the title they claimed after defeating India in the World Test Championship Final at the Oval in June 2023 whereas Temba Bavuma led South African team is aiming for their first ICC trophy in over two decades.

Australia finished second in the league table during the 2023-25 WTC cycle, behind South Africa, having claimed 67.54% of the points on offer to them.

Australia were also the only side that did not lose a series in the 2023-25 cycle, winning four of the six series they played. Their percentage was only bettered by the table-topping Proteas' 69.44%.

'It Is Important That..': Nathan Lyon

Ahead of the match, Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon said that winning the WTC title for the second consecutive time will be an important step in establishing the current side as one of the greatest Australian teams of all time.

"It is important that we look at this week as a celebration piece. We’ve done incredibly well over the last couple of years, at home and away, and that is something that as a team, we should be really proud of," he was quoted as saying by the ICC.

"In my eyes, we're on a journey to becoming a great Australian team. We're not there yet, I'm well aware of that, but that's our goal too. This game is another step up that ladder," he said.

'Want To Honour Legends Of The Past': Maharaj

Keshav Maharaj is determined to follow in the famous footsteps of Graeme Smith and his world number one team of yesteryears at the World Test Championship final. Proteas last got their hands on the trophy (ICC Test Championship mace) 13 years ago.

A legendary South African side comprising Jacques Kallis, Dale Steyn and Graeme Smith beat England at the fabled ground to rise to world number one that day, and Maharaj revealed those memories are fuelling motivation for his side to repeat the feat.

"I remember watching that when they lifted the mace," Maharaj said.

"We know that apart from doing it for us, we want to honour the legends of the past and hopefully we will one day be seen in the same calibre and light to win such a coveted title and hold the Test mace," he said.
