Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a three-time Prime Minister, with his longest stint in October 1999 until March 2004. 

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's breathed his last on 16 August at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

His first tenure as prime minister lasted just 13 days, having sworn in on 16 May 1996. But that wasn't the last time the veteran BJP leader would lead the country. A three-time prime minister, his second stint came two years later when he assumed office for 13 months, from 19 March 1998 to April 1998. But his lasting contribution to India's history and politics came when he took oath a third time as prime minister, when he led India to the new millennium from October 1999 to May 2004 – his longest stint ever.
