The trailer of The Accidental Prime Minister has just been released. It stars Anupam Kher as ex-PM Manmohan Singh and Akshaye Khanna as Sanjaya Baru, who served as Singh's media advisor and chief spokesperson between May 2004 and August 2008. The film is based on the controversial book of the same name by Baru. The film has been directed by Vijay Gutte with Hansal Mehta as the creative producer.

The trailer offers a behind-the-scenes look at the UPA administration, especially the dynamic between Singh and Sonia Gandhi (Suzanne Bernert). In what appears to be a gripping drama, it highlights Dr Singh's alleged conflicts with his party and especially former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who seems to be constantly pushing for her son, Rahul even as Singh grapples with one complicated political crisis after another. While Anupam Kher is striking as Dr Manmohan Singh, Akshaye Khanna as Baru is an immediate showstealer.

Anupam Kher said at the trailer launch: “The biggest challenge for me was the voice. It is the most difficult role I have ever done because everyone knows Manmohan Singh very well.” He added that he prepped very hard for the role, watched videos of the ex-PM for hours, and even meditated for the role.

Here's a look at the cast.

The film features Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh, German actor Suzanne Bernert as former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Ahana Kumra as Priyanka Gandhi, Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi and Akshaye Khanna in the role of Sanjaya Baru.

Ahead of the launch of the trailer of The Accidental Prime Minister, Anupam Kher shared a teaser in his avatar as the former Prime Minster Manmohan Singh. Check it out here:
