Renowned adman Piyush Pandey, the India chairman of the advertising agency Ogilvy group, has been appointed as its global chief creative officer from Jan. 1, the agency said in a statement on Thursday.

The advertising veteran has been associated with the creative agency since 1982, and is known for creating innovative campaigns for brands such as Cadbury, Fevicol and Asian Paints, among others.

The agency also announced that it will expand its worldwide creative council from 12 members to 20 from next month and that half of the new 20 members will be women creative leaders. The names will be announced in January.

“We could not be more thrilled that Piyush will be serving as our chief creative officer worldwide and my creative partner. He is a true industry icon who is uniquely suited to lead our global creative efforts.

"Creativity has and will always be at the heart of the Ogilvy brand and culture. Piyush is the perfect leader to shepherd the legacy as we continue to focus on making brands matter as the leading creative network in the world," Ogilvy worldwide chief executive John Seifert was quoted as saying in the statement.

Oglivy is owned by the London-based WPP Group, the world's largest ad agency network founded by Martin Sorrel.
