Trump Says He Will Hand in Answers to Mueller Queries Next Week

(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump said Saturday that he will turn in written answers to questions from Special Counsel Robert Mueller next week.

Trump was speaking with reporters as he departed the White House for a trip to California. When asked if he would sit down with Mueller's team for an in-person interview, Trump said “we haven't even talked about it.”

Trump had said Friday that he finished preparing the responses to the special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign but that his attorneys would review the answers before he submitted them.

He told reporters in the Oval Office Friday that he -- and not his lawyers -- wrote the answers and that it “didn't take very long to do them.”

“I was asked a series of questions. I answered them very easily,” he said. “You always have to be careful when you answer questions from people who probably have bad intentions.”

Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal attorney, said in an interview last month that the president's legal team had prepared written responses to several dozen questions from Mueller. He said the answers related only to whether Trump colluded with Russia during his presidential campaign. He said then that the legal team was still unwilling to answer any questions concerning obstruction of justice by the president.
