The Rashtriya Janata Dal is not taking its contest with the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal (United) combine lightly in Bihar, said its leader Tejashwi Yadav.

“BJP-JD(U) came together and fought the bypolls on three seats. All of them were not traditionally RJD seats and yet their alliance lost,” Yadav told BloombergQuint's Sanjay Pugalia in an interview. Now, the RJD along with Jitan Ram Manjhi, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party, is building a formidable alliance against the BJP, he added.

The Congress will get more votes than Nitish Kumar. The division of seats can be sorted out internally after considering the winnability of each party.

He believes the coalition of opposition parties that came together after the split verdict in the Karnataka assembly elections will be able to “turn the political wind” going into the general elections next year. “The Modi magic is fading. They are losing one bypoll after another. From the majority, they have been reduced to a minority. If the Shiv Sena withdraws support and other alliance partners follow suit then in case of a no-confidence motion, their government will collapse.”
