Prince Charles Says He Won't Be a ‘Meddling’ King: Telegraph

(Bloomberg) -- Prince Charles insists he will follow in the footsteps of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and “operate within the constitutional parameters” of life as monarch, the Telegraph reported, citing an interview to be broadcast on BBC One to mark his 70th birthday.

His current life's work as the Prince of Wales, which has included wading into controversial issues such as architecture or genetically modified food, will be “completely different” from the role he will one day accede to, he said in the interview.

“No, it won't. I'm not that stupid,” he said when asked his public campaigning will continue. “I do realize that it is a separate exercise being sovereign. So of course I understand entirely how that should operate.”

When asked whether he could continue to use his “convening power,” which sees him gather experts together to make progress on his chosen issues, Prince Charles said it would depend on the government.

“Well you never know, but you could only do it with the agreement of ministers,” he said. That's how it works.”
