We Live By The Constitution: Modi Hits Back At Opposition
On the eve of the Delhi assembly election, he also took aim at the Aam Aadmi Party.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the opposition on Tuesday during his reply to the motion of thanks to the President's address in the Lok Sabha, asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party upholds the spirit of the Constitution.
"We understand the spirit of the Constitution and live by it... India is above everything for us," he said, targeting Rahul Gandhi, who has frequently wielded a copy of the Constitution to criticise the BJP.
"Our Constitution doesn't teach us to discriminate. Those who roam around with the Constitution in their pockets never cared about Muslim women," Modi said.
On the eve of the Delhi assembly election, he also took aim at the Aam Aadmi Party, saying, "Some parties are like 'AAP-da' (disaster) for the future of youth." He criticised extravagant political spending, saying his government saved public funds instead of building "Sheesh Mahal".
Modi contrasted his administration's policies with the opposition's alleged appeasement politics. "We have chosen the path of 'santushtikaran' (satisfaction), not 'tushtikaran' (appeasement)."
"Whenever the NDA government has been in power, we have worked with a long-term vision. Unfortunately, divisive language is being used to create divisions in the country," he said.
Accusing some leaders of echoing "urban Naxal", Modi said: "Some openly speak the language of urban Naxals. Those who declare war against the Indian state can't understand the country's constitution or democracy."
"We have included opposition leaders in meetings on the Election Commission. We do this because we believe in living the Constitution," he said, speaking about the government’s inclusive approach. "Everyone can live for themselves but those who live for the Constitution are sitting here. When power becomes a dynasty, it ends democracy."
