(Bloomberg) -- Germany's Justice Minister Katarina Barley says the U.K. should hold a second referendum on the country's exit from the European Union, Tagesspiegel reports, citing an interview.
“No one could have foreseen the consequences of Brexit at the time of the first vote,” Barley told the newspaper in an interview published Saturday. “A hard Brexit would have devastating consequences for the Brits and the EU.”
Barley said she hasn't lost hope that U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May can win majority support for her Brexit deal, which lawmakers vote on next week. The current agreement is “a good result” and the EU isn't prepared to enter renegotiations, the minister said.

May's Conservative party has no overall majority in the House of Commons and scores of her own party members hate the deal and have vowed to oppose it.
