(Bloomberg) -- Portuguese lawmakers voted against giving terminally ill adults the right to end their lives under medical supervision in a divisive vote.
In a vote in parliament, one of the four bills to legalize euthanasia was rejected by 115 to 110 votes. The other three bills were rejected by a wider margin.
The ruling Socialist party and the main opposition Social Democratic Party allowed their lawmakers to vote freely; the conservative CDS-PP party and Communist party mostly voted against bill while the Left Bloc, the Green Party and the People-Animal-Nature party mostly voted in favor.
