Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy has levelled allegations of impropriety against a Supreme Court judge next in line to be Chief Justice of India, sparking an unprecedented confrontation with the judiciary.
Reddy has written to the Chief Justice of India, SA Bobde, alleging that Justice NV Ramana interfered with the matters of the Andhra Pradesh High Court through some judges, according to a statement shared by Ajeya Kallam, principal adviser to Reddy. BloombergQuint has reviewed a copy of the letter.
The letter cites incidents, but doesn't offer any proof.
Justice Ramana have yet to publicly respond; judges usually don't discuss judgments in public to defend themselves. BloombergQuint's phone calls to Justice Ramana's home and his personal secretary remained unanswered.
Reddy himself faces multiple corruption cases but has denied wrongdoing, calling them politically motivated. His allegations threaten to trigger a constitutional crisis as such a confrontation with the judiciary has never been seen before.
