January AMFI Data: Active Equity Mutual Fund Inflows Decline By 14%; Gold Demand Soars

Inflows across the board saw a slight decline as compared to December, with flexicap funds leading the inflow.

Actively managed equity mutual funds recorded a Rs 24,028.59 crore inflow during January, lower by 14% compared to the inflow of Rs 28,054.06 crore recorded in December, as per the monthly data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India.

Inflows across the board saw a slight decline as compared to December, with flexicap funds leading the inflow. Net inflow of the mutual fund industry was an inflow of Rs 1.56 lakh crore, as compared to an outflow of Rs 66,591 crore the previous month.

Actively-Managed Equity Funds

Large-cap funds recorded an inflow of Rs 2,004.98 crore, against Rs 1,567 crore in December. The mid-cap category saw an inflow of Rs 3,185.47 crore, while the net flows into the category in the preceding month were Rs 4,176 crore.

The small-cap funds recorded a net inflow of Rs 2,942.11 crore, while the net inflows stood at Rs 3,824 crore in December.

Flexi-cap fund inflow rose to Rs 7,672.36 crore, compared to the Rs 10,019 crore inflow in the previous month.

Inflows into the sectoral and thematic category saw a 9.2% rise from the previous month. Inflows into the category stood at Rs 1,042.56 crore. The inflows into the category had stood at Rs 946 crore in the previous month.

Debt Funds

Debt funds recorded an inflow of Rs 74,827.13 crore in the month of January, against an outflow of Rs 1.32 lakh crore in December.

Overnight funds recorded an inflow of Rs 46,280 crore against an inflow of Rs 254.25 crore last month. Liquid funds recorded an inflow of Rs 30,681.55 crore, compared to an outflow of Rs 47,307.95 crore in December.

Hybrid and Passive Funds

Hybrid schemes saw inflows worth Rs 17,356.02 crore, against the Rs 10,755.57 crore inflow recorded in the preceding month. Arbitrage funds saw inflows, with Rs 3,293.30 crore coming in during this month. The category recorded inflows worth Rs 126.31 crore in the month of December.

Gold ETFs saw inflows worth Rs 24,039.96 crore during this month, from Rs 11,647 crore during December.

New Fund Offerings

The total inflows into active equity accounted for by NFOs stood at Rs 806 crore in the month of January. Sectoral and thematic funds saw the most number of NFOs, with 2 launches during the month.

The month of January saw a total of 12 new fund offerings across categories, pulling in Rs 1,939 crore worth of inflows. This compares to 23 new launches bringing inflows worth Rs 4,074 crore, during the previous month.

SIP Contribution

The SIP contribution was flat at Rs 31,002 crore in January, as compared to December 2025.
