(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Open, a marquee event on the professional tennis circuit and New York City's social calendar, will be played at its usual location in Queens this year, according to an official statement from USTA Chief Executive Officer Mike Dowse.
The announcement comes after Governor Andrew Cuomo and state of New York approved plans for the tournament to be held without fans at its usual home site, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
“We recognize the tremendous responsibility of hosting one of the first global sporting events in these challenging times, and we will do so in the safest manner possible, mitigating all potential risks,” Dowse said in the statement.
No further details were given. More information about how the tournament will proceed is expected to be released Wednesday.
