Selling Your Old Gucci Jeans on Vinted Sparks EU Data Fears

Vinted.com, a Lithuanian app that lets you buy and sell pre-owned clothes from Gucci jeans to Nike sneakers, is under the spotlight of European privacy watchdogs after complaints from users asked to send a scanned copy of their ID cards to release funds.

“Following the receipts of a significant number of complaints,” regulators in France, Lithuania and Poland “decided to cooperate to control the site's compliance” with the EU's General Data Protection Regulation,” CNIL, France's data watchdog, said in a statement on Thursday.

Vinted said in a statement that it's committed to “safeguarding privacy and adequately protecting the data” of its members.

“We are awaiting a formal communication from the working group on its areas of investigation, but we will fully collaborate with those authorities, as we have already been doing with the Lithuanian Data Protection Authority,” it said.
