New York City's seven-day positivity average declined to 2.47%, from 2.83% the previous day.
Just 0.32% of residents tested positive on Nov. 12, but that number is likely to increase as more test results come back, Health Commissioner Dave Chokshi said on Twitter. Even so, today's seven-day average is not expected to reach 3%, according to health department officials.
Mayor Bill de Blasio had warned parents yesterday to prepare for in-person schooling to close as soon as Monday. A seven-day positivity rate of 3% would trigger a shutdown, according to a threshold set by de Blasio.
“We're still below 3%, but that could change,” the mayor said on Twitter. “We MUST fight back a second wave to keep our schools open.”
The seven-day average for new cases was 926 on Nov. 12. “This number continues to increase and is an area of concern,” Chokshi said.
