Anticipation is building for the arrival of the southwest monsoon, as the scorching heat continues to grip most parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its forecast, offering a timeline for when the much-awaited monsoon is expected to reach major cities across the country.

According to the weather agency, the southwest monsoon has already made its presence felt by advancing into parts of the south Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea and the Nicobar Islands on May 13. The conditions are now favourable for its further progress over the next few days.

Last week, the IMD predicted an early onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala. The weather agency said that the monsoon is expected to touch Kerala coast on May 27, four days prior to the usual onset date of June 1.

When Will Monsoon Reach Indian Cities?

Mumbai can expect the monsoon rains between June 10 and 15. As the monsoon intensifies, Mumbai residents will see a break from the heat, with light to moderate rainfall providing a cool respite.

For Bengaluru and Chennai, the monsoon rains are predicted to arrive slightly earlier, between June 1 and 5. These cities will experience the first showers, bringing a refreshing end to the dry spell.

In Kolkata, the monsoon is expected to arrive slightly later, between June 10 and 15, while Hyderabad will see its rains between June 5 and 10. As the monsoon progresses, cities like Delhi can expect the rains to reach them between June 25 and 30.

Other cities such as Ahmedabad are likely to see the monsoon from June 15 to 20, with the latest being June 25, while Jaipur will see the rains between June 25 and 30.
