Vice President Election 2025 LIVE Updates: NDA Pick CP Radhakrishnan Wins With 452 Votes
The poll was necessitated due to the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was elected on Tuesday as the 15th vice president of India, the third leader from Tamil Nadu to occupy the coveted post, with a total of 452 votes in his favour
Counting of votes began for the vice presidential poll on Tuesday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi the first to cast his vote. The poll witnessed a direct contest between ruling NDA nominee C P Radhakrishnan and joint opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy, with the BJP-led alliance having a clear edge in the poll necessitated due to the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar.

The voting for the election continued till 5 pm on Tuesday, and the counting began for the same post 6 pm. The voters constitute of all elected member of parliaments. The MPs will cast their vote through a secret ballot, meaning each can vote as they wish and not along party lines.
NDTV reported that, BJP MPs from the southern states will be shepherded by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and those from Uttar Pradesh will be 'guarded' by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, while Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chouhan, Housing Minister ML Khattar, Law Minister Arjun Meghwal, and five others have been assigned 'guard' duties
Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi also cast their vote for the Vice Presidential election.

National President of the Indian National Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge, Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also casted their votes for the vice president election.

Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said, "We have decided to vote in favour of NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan. The opposition will say whatever they want... they don't have any policy. We are working to make India developed by 2047 an envisioned by PM Modi."

Vice Presidential election 2025: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi says, "In every election, the country gets an opportunity to understand the current situation.
