Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said Assam is emerging as a gateway between South East Asia and India and the government initiatives will give impetus to industry, investment, and tourism in the entire North East.
Speaking at the 'Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit' in Guwahati, Modi said, "Assam is emerging as a gateway between South East Asia and India. To further expand this potential, the government has launched the North East Transformative Industrialization Scheme that is 'Unnati'. This scheme will give impetus to industry, investment and tourism in the entire North East including Assam."
He said the BJP government in place since 2016 has upgraded the state's infrastructure, particularly air connectivity. The state has built new bridges on the Brahmaputra river while the Central government has increased railway spending by four-fold to Rs 10,000 crore.
"I would like to tell all of you from the industry to take full advantage of this scheme and the unlimited potential of Assam... In the last decade, many peace accords have been signed and long pending border-related issues have been resolved. We have worked continuously for ease of doing business, we have created a complete ecosystem to promote industry and innovation culture," Modi said.
"Assam has set a target of taking its economy to $150 billion by 2030. I am confident that Assam can definitely achieve this target," the PM said.
