Indian equities ended at the day's low, beginning the new trading week on a negative note.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended 1% lower at 48,564 while the NSE Nifty 50 index fell 1.1% to end at 14,281. However, both the indices ended 160 and 60 points higher than their respective day's low.
This is also the first instance when the Nifty has declined over 1% on consecutive days since April 1 and April 3, 2020.
Among the sectoral indices, while all of them ended with losses, the Metals index was the top laggard, ending 4.1% lower.
Among other indices, The Nifty Pharma, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Realty, Nifty Media and Nifty Auto, all saw losses in excess of 2%. The I.T. index fell 1.7% while the Nifty Bank index ended 1.3% lower.
Broader markets too ended the day on a negative note, underperforming the benchmarks. The Midcap index ended 2.1% lower while the Smallcap index fell 1.8% in today's session.
The India Volatility Index ended 1.6% higher at 24.4.
1,512 stocks on the NSE ended with losses in today's session while 420 stocks bucked the trend to end higher.
