Stock Market LIVE: Spot USDINR To Consolidate Between 95.95-96.50 In Near Term: Dilip Parmar

After shedding half a percent last week, the Indian rupee steadied as easing supply concerns pulled crude oil prices lower. Improving risk-on sentiment provided an additional cushion for the local currency, though all eyes will now be on the RBI's monetary policy decision and foreign capital flows. Looking ahead, spot USDINR is expected to consolidate between 95.95 and 96.50 in the near term, with a bias toward further gains, said Dilip Parmar, Research Analyst, HDFC Securities.

Stock Market LIVE: Investors Should Focus On Earnings Visibility, Acumulate Selectively On Declines: Vikram Kasat

Indian equities are witnessing a relief rebound after eight consecutive weeks of losses, with the Sensex gaining 426 points to 72,336 and the Nifty rising 125 points to 22,547. The recovery is being supported by softer crude prices and reduced expectations of an aggressive US rate hike following weaker jobs data. However, the moderation from the day’s highs suggests investors remain cautious, particularly with elevated global bond yields, sustained foreign outflows and geopolitical risks still in play, said Vikram Kasat - Chief Business Officer – Advisory and Dealing at PL Capital.

Financials, IT and consumer-facing stocks are providing support, while weakness in select IT and healthcare counters highlights the lack of broad-based conviction. Going ahead, investors should focus on earnings visibility and accumulate selectively on declines rather than chase the rebound, he added.

Stock Market LIVE: Sensex Gains 402 Points, Nifty Above 22,500; CAS Underway

At 3:15 PM, the BSE Sensex was up 402.53 points, or 0.56%, at 72,312.23, while the Nifty 50 was at 22,535.45, higher by 113.50 points, or 0.51%. The Closing Auction Session is underway.

Stock Market LIVE: A Maximum 25 Bps Rate Hike Appears Most Likely, Says Ajitabh Bharti

A maximum 25 basis point rate hike appears most likely at this meeting. This would bring the repo rate to 5.50%, aligning with economist consensus from major financial polls, said Ajitabh Bharti, Executive Director and Co-founder, CapitalXB.

The rationale is clear: India cannot pursue a one-to-one alignment with global rate trajectories. The RBI must balance currency stability and internal liquidity management without over-tightening into a still-moderate inflation environment. With inflation projected at 5.1% for FY27 and fiscal metrics under control, aggressive hiking would be unnecessary and potentially growth-damaging, he added.

The MPC's neutral stance since June 2026 signals caution rather than panic. A shallow, early tightening cycle—perhaps 25 bps now with data-dependent follow-ups—allows the RBI to maintain credibility while preserving growth momentum.

In essence, India's strong fiscal hand and contained inflation provide the RBI with the luxury of calibration, not capitulation to global tightening waves, he said.

According to Monarch Networth Capital, the benchmark index has support at 21,800–22,000 level and resistance at 23,000–23,200 level, and after last week’s closing, is likely to give a short-term bounce toward immediate overhead resistance.

The Nifty Bank index has support at 52,800–53,300 and resistance at the 56,000-56,500 level and is likely to trade in line with the benchmark index in the coming week.

Stock Market LIVE: RBI To Hike Repo Rate In October, External Environment 'Unforgiving' For India: HSBC's Pranjul Bhandari

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will raise the repo rate at its upcoming October monetary policy meeting as rising inflation risks, elevated global bond yields and pressure on the rupee warrant tighter monetary conditions, according to Pranjul Bhandari, Chief India Economist and Macro Strategist at HSBC.

Bhandari said the RBI should not wait until December to act and should combine a rate hike with measures to absorb surplus liquidity from the financial system.

Meanwhile, crude oil prices fell by Rs 256 to Rs 8,660 per barrel in the futures trade on Monday amid weak global trends. Japanese investment company Sumitomo Corporation will acquire a 49% stake in a special purpose vehicle of domestic RE player Hero Future Energies for an undisclosed amount. The Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of Hero Future Energies (HFE) is developing a project of an approximately 500 MWp wind and solar power plant with a large-scale battery energy storage at Bidar, Karnataka, a statement said on Monday.

A strategic partnership has been signed with Sumitomo Corporation under which it will acquire a 49% stake in its project SPV, HFE said. Stock Market Today Live Updates: Gold slips 1% to Rs 1.49 lakh/10g as firm dollar keeps lid on bullion recovery

Gold prices fell nearly 1 per cent to Rs 1.49 lakh per 10 grams in futures trade on Monday as a stronger US dollar kept a lid on bullion's recovery. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), the yellow metal for December delivery fell Rs 1,020, or nearly 1 per cent, to Rs 1,49,370 per 10 grams.

Gold had shed Rs 2,887, or 2 per cent, in a holiday-shortened last week, to end at Rs 1.5 lakh per 10 grams. Domestic commodity markets were closed on Friday on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. "Gold prices have remained in a consolidating phase as a stronger US dollar and elevated bond yields continue to limit upside momentum," said Kaveri More, Commodity Technical Analyst at Choice Broking.

The dollar index was hovering near an 18-month high of 102.37, keeping pressure on bullion, she added. In global markets, Comex gold futures for December delivery traded marginally higher at USD 4,163.50 per ounce in New York.

Gold is holding above USD 4,150 per ounce in overseas trade after briefly crossing USD 4,200 on Friday, supported by a weak US jobs report that cut October rate hike expectations by the Federal Reserve to below 20 per cent, said Akshat Siddhant, Lead Quant Analyst at investment platform Mudrex.

However, investors are still pricing a nearly 70% chance of a December hike, he said. Last week, gold in the international markets fell $158.9, or 3.7 per cent, to close at $4,162.3 per ounce, while silver dropped $4.38, or 6.7 per cent, to $60.41 per ounce.

According to Manav Modi, Commodities Analyst at Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, bullion's recovery remains constrained by elevated US Treasury yields, with the 10-year yield holding around 5.2 per cent amid persistent inflation, fiscal concerns and heavy government borrowing.

"Gold therefore remains caught between cooling labour conditions and persistent yield and dollar pressures," Modi said. Analysts said investors closely tracking the Services PMI data from major economies, US trade figures and mid-month consumer sentiment data due later in the week will also provide cues, while the unresolved US-Iran situation could add another layer of volatility in precious metals.

Stock Market Today Live Updates: IndiGo to hike fuel surcharge for domestic, international flights from Oct 6

The country's largest airline IndiGo on Monday announced a hike in fuel surcharge for domestic and international flights in the wake of rising jet fuel prices. The revised charges will be effective from October 6 and will push airfares higher.

The quantum of hike ranges from Rs 100 to Rs 350 for domestic flights depending on distance. The hike in surcharge has also been effected for international flights, the airline said in a statement.

IndiGo said the continuous rise in fuel prices, with the latest month-on-month increase exceeding 14 per cent, has taken ATF costs to levels that are amongst the highest in the last decade.

"Given that Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) makes up a significant share of airlines' operating costs, this rise is expected to impact airlines' cost structures and network economics, including those of IndiGo," the statement said.

In view of the situation, the airline said it has marginally re-calibrated its fuel charges across its domestic as well as international flights.

This support region having helped reverse major downtrends in the last two occasions, encourages us to expect the same now. Alternatively, the break of this region would mark the end of the uptrend that has been on since Covid-19 and could expose 19000 and 16700, the 38 and 50% retracements respectively from covid low."

Stock Market Today Live Updates: Brent Crude Climbs 1% To Hit $103 After Yemeni Houthi Attacks Saudi Energy Facilities

Crude oil prices rose on Monday after Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis said they launched ballistic missiles and drones at Saudi Aramco sites in Riyadh and the Khurais area, raising concerns about production at the top exporter in the region. Brent crude futures, due for a December expiry, climbed 81 cents, or 0.79%, to $103.06 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude was at $91.57 a barrel, up 46 cents, or 0.50% in early trade on Oct. 5.

Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for a missile and drone attack on Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure, saying it targeted an Aramco facility in Riyadh in retaliation for Saudi-backed military operations in Yemen. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group launched long-range ballistic missiles and drones at the Saudi facility and described the operation as precise.

Stock Market Today Live Updates: Market Outlook

Gaurav Udani, Founder, Thincredblu Securities, on today's market outlook: "Nifty is expected to open around 22,535, up by nearly 115 points, indicating a strong gap-up start. After the recent weakness and the index closing around the important 22,500 zone, this recovery is encouraging, but sustaining the gains will be important.

The immediate support is around 22,450–22,500, while 22,750–22,850 will act as the first resistance zone. If Nifty sustains above 22,850, the recovery can extend towards 23,000. However,  I would avoid chasing the opening move and instead look for buying opportunities on dips if the index holds the key support zone.

The broader trend remains cautious, and a sustained move above 23,050 would be required for a meaningful improvement in the near-term setup. Until then, volatility and sharp intraday reversals cannot be ruled out."
