Reacting to the strikes carried out by India on nine terrorist bases in Pakistan on Wednesday, Vallabh Bhansali, founder and chairman, Enam Holdings, said that the move had both — aim to weaken the enemy on a long-term basis and avoidance of war — as the country only attacked targeted entities.

He noted that India's Operation Sindoor's success coincides with execution of free trade agreement with the UK. It gives the picture that India continues to remain a growth story, Bhansali said.

In the wee hours of Wednesday, India hit nine terror bases in Pakistan in retaliation to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, the Ministry of Defence said in a release. Later in a press briefing, the ministry gave details of the strike.

Apart from Operation Sindoor, India's decision to suspend Indus Waters Treaty is also a strategic response, according to Bhansali.

"How many of us thought of  Water as a weapon? Just the threat (of suspending water flows) has created a ruckus in Pakistan. It's a brilliant response. Every time we had to respond, we have responded brilliantly."

Following India's strike, the NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex opened 0.60% and 0.86% lower, respectively, to become one of the worst performing Asian markets during early hours of the trade. However, it erased opening losses and has remained range bound so far.

Bhansali expects India will continue to play the role of 'Vishvamitra' in the global setup despite its aspiration to dominate because it focuses on mutual benefits from the domination.

On the India-Pakistan issue, Bhansali added that India has to deal with such nuances from its neighbours from time to time given the country has a very "interesting" set of neighbours. The situation with Pakistan has become more of a relation with a contentious brother, he said.

According to him, China and Bangladesh have focused to grow unlike Pakistan who has given into army and militants. Pakistan's elected leaders also fail to complete their terms at the office. Unless and until citizens of Pakistan decide to focus on progress and prosperity, change is unlikely, he added.
