Supreme Court Directs Delhi NCR Authorities To Shift All Stray Dogs To Shelter Homes

The Supreme Court on Monday has directed Delhi NCR Authorities to round up all stray dogs from all localities and shift them to shelter homes. The MCD, NDMC and Delhi government and Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon authorities to immediately create dog shelters across Delhi NCR and report to court in 8 days, the Supreme Court directed as per NDTV report.

"The shelters should have professionals who can deal with dogs, carry sterilisation and immunisation and the dogs should not be let out of shelters," said the top court.

The top court further directed the authorities to install CCTVs in shelters to make sure of the dogs well being.

The Supreme Court bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R Mahadevan were hearing the suo moto case against stray dogs attacking children in streets, after taking note of a news report on the rising incidents of rabies deaths following stray dog attacks. 

Justice JB Pardiwallah said, that "We are not doing it for ourselves! We are doing it for public at large," as per NDTV report. "Come up with a helpline to report dog-bites," he further added.

"We cannot sacrifice our children just because of few dog lovers," Solicitor General Tushar Mehta for Centre told Supreme Court. "Round up all stray dogs from all localities— whether sterilised or unsterilised," said Supreme Court.

The top court, has called the ABC rule absurd where one stray dog is picked up from a locality, they are sterilised and then sent back to same locality.
