Passengers aboard a Pune Metro train were left shocked after rainwater began leaking into a coach during heavy showers on Friday evening, according to report by NDTV.

According to NDTV report, the incident occurred on the Pimpri–Swargate Purple Line in Pimpri-Chinchwad when commuters travelling during peak hours experienced water dripping from the roof of a passenger coach. Within minutes, the leakage intensified, leading to water accumulation inside the compartment.

Eyewitness visuals, now widely circulating on social media, show passengers scrambling to avoid the steady stream of water, with several individuals unable to escape getting drenched. Some commuters were seen shifting positions repeatedly in an attempt to stay dry as the leak worsened.

The footage is believed to have been recorded during a spell of heavy rainfall that lashed parts of Pune on Friday. The sudden ingress of water inside a functioning metro coach has raised serious concerns about passenger safety and the structural integrity of the system.

Authorities are yet to issue a detailed statement on the cause of the leak. Meanwhile, commuters and civic observers have called for an urgent inspection of metro infrastructure to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

Pune received pre-monsoon showers on Friday even as large parts of Maharashtra witnessed temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Pune recorded 13.1-mm rainfall, bringing much-needed respite from the scorching heat, as the mercury logged 37 degrees Celsius. Satara too witnessed drizzles.

Nandurbar in north Maharashtra recorded 40 degrees Celsius, while Malegaon clocked 41 degrees. Parbhani and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Marathwada saw maximum temperature at 41.3 and 41.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The Colaba observatory, the base station for Mumbai recorded 35 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz logged 34.5 degrees Celsius for the suburbs, the IMD said.
