Karnataka Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna resigned from his post on Monday, amid the row over his remarks on the alleged irregularities in the state's electoral roll.

"Rajanna has been asked to resign," a top source in the Chief Minister's office told news agency PTI earlier in the day.

Rajanna held a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Vidhana Soudha after which he resigned.

The Congress leader last week remarked on the irregularities in the state's electoral roll, as alleged in a press conference by Rahul Gandhi. However, he ended up questioning the state government over it.

"When was the voter list prepared? It was prepared when our own government was in power. At that time, was everyone just sitting quietly with eyes closed? If we speak casually, we'll have to say many things," Rajanna had said.

Rajanna, a Siddaramaiah loyalist, has also been in the news for the past two months when he claimed that there will be an ‘August Revolution', hinting at a major upheaval in the government.
