Multiple explosions rocked a 30-story building in northeast China on Friday, 25 January, killing at least one person. The blast happened about 3:20 pm on the 30th floor of the Wanda Plaza Apartment Building in Changchun, provincial capital of China's Jilin province, official media reported.

  • Initial reports and videos posted on social media suggest blasts took place within as well as outside the plaza.
  • Wanda Group, which owns the building, said it was aware of the incident but had no comment yet.
  • Investigation into the cause of the blast is ongoing.

After concluding its probe into the multiple blasts on Saturday, 26 January, Chinese police said that the assailant, named Guo, suffered from cancer.

A government announcement said Guo had also killed a man with whom he had business disputes in another city before driving to Changchun.
