Monsoon Rains  1% Above Normal in Past Week, Says Met Department

Rainfall in India as a whole, has been 1 percent above normal between June 23 and June 29, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in a press release.

The southern peninsula has received 43 percent above average rainfall, while the monsoon in north-east India was 33 percent below average. Central India, on the other hand, has experienced rainfall 11 percent above normal.

The IMD predicted favourable conditions for “further advance of southwest monsoons” over the next two to three days in parts of Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab & Haryana.

According to previous predictions by the IMD, this year's monsoon is expected to be above average after two successive years of severe drought.
