Peter Kazimir, the head of Slovakia's central bank who also sits on the ECB Governing Council, rejected calls from ruling coalition lawmakers to step down.

“I won't react to political attacks and calls of certain politicians,” Kazimir said in a statement emailed by the central bank on Tuesday.

The remarks were issued in response to Peter Kremsky and Juraj Seliga, lawmakers from two ruling coalition parties. The two have called on Kazimir to quit, saying he had “tolerated” corruption deals when he was the nation's finance minister, DennikN reported on Tuesday, citing a statement from Kremsky.

Kazimir served as Slovakia's finance minister from 2012 until 2019, when he took over the central bank. He also served as deputy chairman of the-then ruling Smer party, which was ousted from power following mass protests over the killing of a journalist and his fiancee.
