Canada will announce counter-tariffs on an additional C$30 billion ($20.8 billion) of US-made products on Wednesday after the Trump administration went ahead with levies on steel and aluminum, according to people familiar with the matter.

Government officials are expected to give the details in the next hour. The amount was first reported by Reuters.

The Canadian retaliation will target US steel and aluminum as well as other goods, matching the new US levies dollar for dollar, one of the officials said.

Last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government put tariffs in place on C$30 billion of US products — including hundreds of consumer items such as alcoholic drinks, cosmetics and peanut butter — in response to President Donald Trump’s move to place 25% tariffs on many Canadian goods.
