The Congress on Monday wondered whether Reserve Bank of India deputy governor Viral Acharya's resignation could have anything to do with his stance on RBI independence.
"RBI deputy governor Viral Acharya's resignation comes just six months before his tenure was due to end. Could his abrupt decision have anything to do with his stance on reaffirming the RBI's independence from the current government," the Congress said on its official Twitter handle.

June 24, 2019Acharya has resigned as RBI deputy governor citing personal reasons. His exit comes six months ahead of the scheduled end of his three-year term.
Acharya's is the second high-profile exit from RBI in the last seven months. Governor Urjit Patel resigned in December, nine months before his term was supposed to end. He was replaced by current governor Shaktikanta Das.
