India's Wholesale Inflation Hits Four-Month High In March

India's wholesale inflation jumped to the highest in four months.

The Wholesale Price Index, or WPI, stood at 14.55% in March 2022 compared with 13.11% in February, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday. That's the highest since November 2021.

The gauge rose 2.69% over the previous month.

WPI Inflation Internals (Year-On-Year)

  • Inflation in manufactured products—the largest component of the index—stood at 10.7% compared with 9.84% in February.

  • Primary articles inflation stood at 15.54% compared with 13.4% in the previous month.

  • Inflation in food articles was at 8.06% against 8.2% in the previous month.

  • Vegetables inflation eased to 19.88% from 26.93% in the previous month.

  • Inflation in non-food articles was at 25.41% against 24.2% in February.

  • Fuel and power inflation stood at 34.52% against 31.5% in the preceding month.
